Stipple (or pointillism) is a technique where drawings are shaded with hundreds or even thousands of little dots. This year, our students were asked to create a picture of a vehicle using this technique. It's amazing what kind of three-dimensionality we can achieve with just a bunch of dots! Click on the photos for a closer look.
I would like to note that not all of the assignments are here- unfortunetly it seems I need to replace my camera, as it didn't save many of the pictures that I took :(

AVI1O and AVI2O Drawing
It's a school favourite- the faces drawn by the grade 9/10 visual arts class. Sometimes I want to move onto a different subject for this assignment, but the results always captivate...

Miss George's Summer
I hope you had a great summer. I look forward to hearing your stories and seeing great creativity.
I spent part of my holiday in South America, visiting Chile and fufilling a life-long dream to see Machu Picchu in Peru. It was as wonderful as I imagined, with an amazing amount of art and history.
SALUDOS! Miss G.

Grade 9-10 Sculpture
As you can see from the date of this post, May was a very busy month! However, I knew that you would want to see some of the grade 9 and 10 sculpture projects. The grade 9s created Alebrijes (Alay-bree-hays), a Mexican style of folk art. The grade 10s created their own gargoyles from clay, based on Medieval art history. All groups also created soap stone sculptures, but they took them home so quickly that I didn't get a chance to photograph them.

2009 Walkerton Juried Art Show
Yesterday was a special evening for many of our art students as they displayed their work at the Walkerton Juried Art Show. Our school received a special mention for the 36 pieces that they submitted (of 15o in total). The opportunity to put art in the public eye can take a lot of courage, and we're very proud of all of you!
Grade 10 student Bekki Reinhart received second place for her detailed Elephant stipple drawing. Way to go Bekki!

Grade 12 Portfolio Pieces
After completing an initial series of activities, our grade 12 students have been asked to design their own portfolio pieces with a focused theme. Brittany has chosen to look at the misery of celebrity culture. Angela is looking at identity and peer pressure. Mark is illustrating the lyrics of his favourite band. Jaclyn is taking her favourite children's tales and giving them a twist of dark humour. Finally, Holly (back to do a second grade 12 course!) is looking at counter culture.
